Vaccines for Older Canadians: What You Need to Know to Stay Healthy and Independent

In recognition of World Pneumonia Day and the 2025-26 cold and flu season, this webinar highlights the importance of vaccination as a cornerstone of healthy ageing, disease prevention and ageing-in-the-right-place.

As colder weather sets in, staying protected against vaccine-preventable illnesses is one of the best ways to support healthy, independent living. This fall and winter, vaccines for seasonal influenza, RSV, COVID-19 and pneumococcal disease are especially critical—along with maintaining protection through routine immunizations like shingles, tetanus and diphtheria.

Yet, understanding which vaccines are recommended—and which are publicly covered for older adults across the provinces—can be challenging, as eligibility and access vary across Canada.

Join Dr. Samir Sinha, Geriatrician, Clinician Scientist and Director of Health Policy Research at the National Institute on Ageing and Dr. Vivien Brown, Family Physician and Author, for an informative discussion on the latest vaccine updates and recommendations for older adults and to learn which vaccines can help protect you or your loved ones from pneumonia and other serious infections—this winter and beyond. Together, they’ll share expert insights on the current national guidance, coverage considerations by province/territory and practical advice to help you navigate the 2025–26 cold and flu season with confidence.
