Here's what Ontarians say are the biggest cracks in health care: OMA poll

By: Veronica Appia

The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) has released the initial results of an ongoing poll asking residents to identify their primary health-care priorities as the COVID-19 pandemic winds down. Ontarians have thus far highlighted four major issues: wait times and backlogs, access to physicians, health care for seniors, and access to mental health and addictions services.

Dr. Samir Sinha, NIA Director of Health Policy Research, said there is an even more substantial shortage in the number of geriatricians. He suggested one potential solution may be to have government policies that outline health human resource strategies for physician staffing in both Ontario and Canada, with a goal to increase the number of doctors over a period of time.
